This is the black version of BIG HORN OUTDOORS' compact pellet oven, model SRPG18003B, and it is one of the simplest routes to cooking over real wood fire. It weighs 11.3 kg, folds its legs for packing and quotes 460°C on a square 12 inch stone. For someone who wants a light oven for the garden, a campsite or a summer event, and is happy to manage pellets, it delivers a lot of heat for its size.

In its favour

  • At 11.3 kg with folding legs it is one of the lighter ovens here and easy to move around a garden.
  • The maker states 460°C after an 18 minute preheat and pizza in 90 seconds or less.
  • Assembles without tools and comes apart for cleaning and storage, according to the listing.

Good to know

  • Pellets need topping up through the bake, and you turn the pizza often by hand, as the maker advises.
  • Warranty wording is unclear: one bullet mentions 24 months while the specs state 1 year.

Our take

Fire, heat and timing

BIG HORN gives an 18 minute preheat to 860°F, or 460°C, after which pizzas take 90 seconds or less. The maker advises turning the pizza often and keeping toppings light, which is good guidance for any compact pellet oven where the flame sits at the back.

The listing does not describe the pellet hopper or how refuelling works mid-cook, so look at the manual or product photos to understand the process before your first session.

Taking it on the road

The bullet promises tool-free assembly and says the oven comes apart quickly for cleaning and packing. With folding legs and an 11.3 kg weight, it fits in a car boot alongside a bag of pellets. You will need to bring your own peel, pellet scoop and a bag or box to protect it, because the included components field reads no.

Dimensions are 54.8 by 36 by 73.7 cm, the height including the chimney.

Warranty and the twin listing

Warranty is muddled: the bullets mention more than 24 months, while the specification table says 1 year. Ask the seller which applies. BIG HORN also sells a brushed silver version under a different ASIN, with the same headline figures, which appears in other guides here.

Where it sits among wood-fuelled ovens

The George Foreman 12 inch pellet oven is slightly lighter and ships with a paddle, shovel and carry bag, but states no maximum temperature. The Mimiuo upgraded pellet oven adds a fuel funnel and viewing holes with a 33 cm stone. Mimiuo's Classic W-Oven burns wood as well as pellets and includes a peel. The BIG HORN stands out on stated heat for its weight.

Verdict

The black BIG HORN OUTDOORS pellet oven is for wood-fire fans who want high stated heat in a light, foldable body and will supply their own peel. If you want accessories bundled, the George Foreman pellet oven is better prepared, and the Mimiuo Classic W-Oven suits cooks who want to burn wood as well as pellets.
